Music Projects Guitars

As a guitarist and songwriter, I have performed solo, and as a member of several Montreal-based bands from 1975 to 1982, including: Christopher Robin, Dawntreader, Stephen-Paul & Friends, and the Island City Band -- performing original and cover music ranging from folk, gospel, Christian contemporary, rock, and blues.

Although music and performing was a integral part of my life, in 1983 I suddenly and inexplicably pulled this aspect of myself  -- and placed it completely on the shelf.  All my equipment and guitars were sold, except my first decent dreadnought -- a Guild D-35 -- and my Guild S-300D electric.  These sadly remained in their respective cases for the 15 years while I lived in Newfoundland.

I've been back in Montreal since the Summer of 1999, and I'm delighted that my music is off the shelf, dusted, and reintegrated into my being as a daily occurrence!

Time spent in south Texas over the past few years has involved a great deal of music with friends, and helping out with their ongoing projects.

Meanwhile, I have been steadily building a stable of interesting guitars and various folk instruments, including a mountain dulcimer, a concertina, several flutes, penny whistles, recorders,  many percussion things,  and a zither.

I have been extremely blessed to have served as the Director of Music at St. Stephen's Anglican Church, Westmount (2002-2004), where I continue to lead a worship team with the incredibly gifted Erica Phare.

News:  Please continue to watch this space for news about Woodwork, my never-ending CD project! I've been writing some great new songs, and look forward to releasing these.  My next project will include several friends, and shall be entitled "Guitared and Feathered"

I still play my "bought new" '77 Guild D-35 periodically, which has been fitted with a Fishman Active Matrix-II pickup. My main instruments are a pair of Taylor Guitars.  I  use a 355 12-string, and a 710 -- both of these are equipped with B-Band pickups, and usually played through a Boss AD-3 connected directly to a P.A. system.  My current favourite practice guitar is a 25- year old Yamaha FG-405 acoustic. The house-guitar in Corpus Christi is a Sigma DM3 acoustic guitar by C.F. Martin & Company. In 2002, I was fortunate enough to acquire a mint condition vintage Daion Model 80, replacing my long lost (and often lamented) Heritage 78!

You can take the boy from the rock, but not the rock out of the boy; I really enjoy playing a mint condition1983 Ibanez RS1010SL Steve Lukather Signature electric. Although I still love to play rock & roll, there will not be any significant amount of electric guitar playing in my future, as I would like to preserve what is left of my hearing!

Past guitars in my life have included a 1976 Aria 6814 12-string, a beautifully deep toned and brassy 6 string Daion Heritage guitar (I really miss this one!), and late 70's versions of Guild M-60 and SD-300 electrics. I'm hoping to get on the waiting list for a Michael Greenfield at some point in the future.

Here are some links to makers of guitar-related stuff I use and highly recommend.
